Here are some tips for helping your overweight cat shed some pounds and live a healthier life.

Visit your veterinarian:Before making any major changes to your cat's diet or exercise routine, it's important to schedule a checkup with your veterinarian. They can help you determine the ideal weight for your cat, develop a safe and effective weight loss plan, and rule out any underlying medical conditions that could be contributing to your cat's weight gain.

Adjust your cat's diet: One of the most important steps in helping your cat lose weight is to adjust their diet. Your veterinarian can recommend a food that is lower in calories and fat but still provides all the nutrients your cat needs. You may also need to reduce the amount of food you're feeding your cat each day.

Cut back on treats: Treats are a delicious way to show your cat you love them, but they can also pack a big caloric punch. If you're trying to help your cat lose weight, it's important to cut back on treats or find healthier alternatives.

Encourage exercise: Cats can be naturally lazy creatures, but it's important to encourage them to get some exercise each day. Play with your cat using a wand toy, laser pointer, or other interactive toy. You can also create an obstacle course for your cat to navigate or scatter their food around the house so they have to work for their meals.

Make mealtime a challenge: Food puzzles and other interactive feeders can slow down your cat's eating and make them feel fuller for longer. This can help reduce the amount of food they eat overall.

Monitor your cat's progress: It's important to weigh your cat regularly to track their progress. Aim for a weight loss of 1-2% of your cat's body weight per week.

By following these tips, you can help your overweight cat lose weight and live a healthier, happier life.

These are definitely helpful tips! Mochi is at a healthy weight, but if he ever does end up getting to be a bit overweight I will definitely keep these tips in mind. Gizmo on the other hand is a bit overweight, but he's also a Maine Coon and they are usually much bigger than other breeds.
